The Collection
Our washable Clea Collection is inspired by North African funk music and traditional Oushak, or Usak, rugs. Known for their open composition and soft palettes, our team used a more modern tonal variation to riff on these heritage designs. Woven with a subtle textural quality, these washable flatweaves are optimized for comfort and ease.
The Design
Swell’s geometric double border surrounds a central medallion and diamond field.
The Material
Our polyester is highly durable, mildew-resistant, and machine-washable. In this piece, it's combined with cotton for extra durability. Cotton, a vegetable fiber, is widely used across rug traditions because of its sturdiness and longevity. Finally, a recycled cotton backing makes it both strong and supple.
The Maker
Our partner in India has over 40 years of weaving expertise. They’re committed to using sustainable raw materials to reduce their carbon footprint. They hold Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) and OEKO-TEX® certifications.
The Designer
Our in-house, all-star design team collaborates across three different countries. Based in Los Angeles, Istanbul, and Mumbai, they put a lot of thought into each and every collection they design. Starting with the weave itself, they determine material and technique, then create moodboards to capture the look and feel before starting to design. When designs are finalized, they conduct an extensive sampling process, perfecting each style and color before it goes to production.
- Clean on low power with a non-rotary vacuum or suction attachment (no spinning brush) only
- Lightly vacuum the rug once a week
- Use a high-quality rug pad to absorb shock and reduce damage
- When it's time for a deeper clean, machine wash your rug with like colors on delicate with 1 TBSP of gentle detergent. Line dry afterwards.
- For size 5' x 8' we recommend using a 60lb (8cu ft) commercial washing machine, for 6' x 9' we recommend an 80lb (11.5cu ft) commercial washing machine, and for 8' x 10' we recommend a 100lb (13.5cu ft) commercial washing machine. Please call your local laundromat ahead of time to determine if the right washer size is available.
- For sizes 9' x 12' and above, spot or dry clean.
- Be sure to wash rugs according to their recommended washing machine size capacity. Please note: failure to adhere to size recommendations could result in damage to your machine.
- If your rug is heavily soiled, or if it's tough to find a laundromat, dry cleaning is recommended
- A slight shrinkage of up to 2.5% can be expected for all washable rugs
- Light shedding, matting, and signs of fiber or thread breakage may occur over time, depending on the material and weave. In high-traffic areas, these effects may appear more quickly.
- Spot cleaning instructions:
- Lightly dampen a paper towel or cloth with clean water
- Gently blot the affected area with your damp towel or cloth to dilute the stain
- If the stain persists, try using an unscented, citrus-free, clear soap to avoid bleaching the textile.
- Repeat this process until the stain is removed
