The Collection
Our washable Hana collection is inspired by artistic styles from across the globe. Our designers drew inspiration from the Dansaekhwa movement, a Korean abstractionism style known for its rich textures, pattern repetition, and monochromatic layering. They also looked to Zarina’s geometric screenprints and Mark Rothko’s evocative color fields.
The Design
Baram’s central color is bookended by contrasting stripes.
The Material
These washable flatweaves are woven with polyester and cotton for comfort and durability. Each piece is pressed and stitched to prevent shrinkage and wrinkling after washing. Soft as wool with a very subtle silk-like sheen, our polyester is highly durable, mildew-resistant, and machine-washable. Cotton, a vegetable fiber, is widely used across rug traditions for its sturdiness and longevity.
The Maker
Our partner in India has over 40 years of weaving expertise. They’re committed to using sustainable raw materials to reduce their carbon footprint. They hold Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) and OEKO-TEX® certifications.
The Designer
Our in-house, all-star design team collaborates across three different countries. Based in Los Angeles, Istanbul, and Mumbai, they put a lot of thought into each and every collection they design. Starting with the weave itself, they determine material and technique, then create moodboards to capture the look and feel before starting to design. When designs are finalized, they conduct an extensive sampling process, perfecting each style and color before it goes to production.
- Clean on low power with a non-rotary vacuum or suction attachment (no spinning brush) only
- Lightly vacuum the rug once a week
- Use a high-quality rug pad to absorb shock and reduce damage
- When it's time for a deeper clean, machine wash your rug with like colors on delicate with 1 TBSP of gentle detergent. Line dry afterwards.
- For sizes up to 5' x 8' we recommend using a 4cu ft home washing machine, for sizes 6'x9' we recommend a 4.7cu ft home washing machine, for 8'x10' we recommend a 5.3cu ft home washing machine, and for 9'x12' and up we recommend a 80lb (11.5cu ft) commercial washing machine. Please call your local laundromat ahead of time to determine if the right washer size is available.
- Be sure to wash rugs according to their recommended washing machine size capacity. Please note: failure to adhere to size recommendations could result in damage to your machine.
- If your rug is heavily soiled, or if it's tough to find a laundromat, dry cleaning is recommended
- A slight shrinkage of up to 2% can be expected for all washable rugs
- Foot traffic and movement can skew the fiber direction of your rug. For a more uniform look, brush your rug with your hand or a stiff plastic bristle brush to smooth and reorient the pile.
- Spot cleaning instructions:
- Lightly dampen a paper towel or cloth with clean water
- Gently blot the affected area with your damp towel or cloth to dilute the stain
- If the stain persists, try using an unscented, citrus-free, clear soap to avoid bleaching the textile.
- Repeat this process until the stain is removed
