The Collection

Made entirely by hand from start to finish, our Assam Silk Cushions are practically one-of-a-kind. Eri is a wild silk, and known as peace silk - after they weave their silken cocoons, the eri silk moths emerge unharmed. The technologies of silk weaving are an ancient craft, at least 1000 years old in India; and the weavers we work with have been practicing the art of silk production for generations.

The Material

Eri silk is a staple fiber, meaning it is harvested in short pieces, which need to be spun into thread, similarly to wool. Elastic, strong, and durable, eri silk is slightly heavier than other silks, but like all silk possesses thermal properties, helping it retain warmth in winter and stay cool in summer.

The Maker

Our Assam-based partner works hard for its weaving community, and believes firmly that their greatest strength is their unity as a collective. Founded with the purpose of supporting and uplifting this heritage craft; they connect local weavers with a wider market. They work with over 300 artisans, and seek to sustain the various traditional practices involved in this art form.
