The Collection
Novello was inspired by the architectural geometries of Carlos Scarpa and the hazy tonal color quality of the sci-fi movie Dune. It's woven on a Jacquard loom, which creates intricate designs by individually lifting warp threads. This technique adds a cloudy texture to the piece, almost like a desert storm, giving the viewer a bird's eye view of a fantasy realm.
The Design
Composed of offset lines and geometric motifs, Novello holds a dynamic energy. These designs have no defined top or bottom, so their angles can interact with your space in a myriad of ways. Nebbia features angular linework interrupted by pyramids and rectangles.
The Material
In this piece, polyester, jute, and wool are blended for texture. Polyester is extremely soft, durable, and non-porous, which helps prevent mildew since it doesn't readily absorb moisture. Jute is a natural fiber with a golden sheen, known for its tensile strength and versatility. Wool has a hydrophobic layer which repels dust and dirt, as well as lanolin, which provides its trademark luster and protects the fiber from breaking or shedding. Finally, a latex cotton backing adds stability and strength.
The Maker
Our partner in India has 19 years of weaving expertise. Committed to expanding their renewable energy sources, they've installed a solar plant to reduce their carbon footprint. They also hold Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) and OEKO-TEX® certifications.
The Designer
Our in-house, all-star design team collaborates across three different countries. Based in Los Angeles, Istanbul, and Mumbai, they put a lot of thought into each and every collection they design. Starting with the weave itself, they determine material and technique, then create moodboards to capture the look and feel before starting to design. When designs are finalized, they conduct an extensive sampling process, perfecting each style and color before it goes to production.
- Vacuum on low power with a non-rotary (no spinning brush) vacuum or suction attachment only.
- Professional cleaning recommended as needed.
- Rotate your rug on occasion to ensure even wear over time.
- Keep away from excessive moisture.
- Due to the hand-crafted nature of our rugs, you can expect to see light shedding, matting, and signs of fiber and thread breakage over time. For high traffic areas, these effects may occur more quickly and easily.
- Spot cleaning instructions:
- Lightly dampen a paper towel or cloth with clean water
- Gently blot the affected area with your damp towel or cloth to dilute the stain
- If the stain persists, try using an unscented, citrus-free, clear soap to avoid bleaching the textile.
- Repeat this process until the stain is removed
- From time to time you may spot tiny flecks of dried hay or grass woven within the fibers-traces of the grazing pastures where the sheep once roamed. These can be removed by hand or with tweezers.
- Because this rug is made from natural wool rich in lanolin, it may release a subtle sheep-like scent when damp. It's simply the fiber's natural character, and it will disappear once dry.
