The Collection
Named for modernist sculptors, our Modernist Jute Mats are effortless and charming. We were very taken with their kilim-like construction: a simple, rough handweave feels fresh and serene. Like a low profile rug, these minimalist pieces are lightweight and easy to move; their evocative ease works particularly well in a calm bedroom.
The Design
Hesse has a beautiful elongated plaid which feels classic and almost farmhousey, in a neutral palette with a hint of bluish gray.
The Material
Jute is a natural fiber with a golden sheen, known for its tensile strength and versatility. In this piece, a handspun weft expresses jute's natural irregularities and textures. An eco-conscious crop, jute has minimal water needs, and consumes large enough quantities of carbon dioxide that it's C02-neutral. A cotton warp provides stability and strength.
The Maker
Our partner began in 1970 with one loom in a small room at home before flourishing into a bustling family business. The third-generation Bhadohi-based weaving house is known for their honesty, dedication, and innovation within the industry; as well as their facility with many types of weaving.
The Designer
Our in-house, all-star design team collaborates across three different countries. Based in Los Angeles, Istanbul, and Mumbai, they put a lot of thought into each and every collection they design. Starting with the weave itself, they determine material and technique, then create moodboards to capture the look and feel before starting to design. When designs are finalized, they conduct an extensive sampling process, perfecting each style and color before it goes to production.
- Vacuum on low power with a non-rotary (no spinning brush) vacuum or suction attachment only.
- Rotate your rug on occasion to ensure even wear over time.
- Keep away from excessive moisture.
- Professional cleaning recommended as needed.
- Due to the hand-crafted nature of our rugs, you can expect to see light shedding, matting, and signs of fiber and thread breakage over time. For high traffic areas, these effects may occur more quickly and easily.
- Do not dry clean or steam clean.
- Spot cleaning instructions:
- Lightly dampen a paper towel or cloth with clean water
- Gently blot the affected area with your damp towel or cloth to dilute the stain
- If the stain persists, try using an unscented, citrus-free, clear soap to avoid bleaching the textile.
- Repeat this process until the stain is removed
